"I have been humbled by the opportunity to compete for Penn with a team of incredible young women over the past four years. The experience as a whole shaped my college career; I attribute the best of my times at Penn to the gymnastics program and the people within it. Competing for a successful, well-rounded, Division I team was the ultimate goal I held as a young athlete, so to have completed my most long-standing dream is something I will always be grateful for and proud of."

- How to Make a Gift
The Penn Athletics varsity funds are essential to the current and long-term success of Penn’s nearly 1,000 student-athletes across all 33 of its intercollegiate varsity sports. Gifts are made directly to the overall sport program (i.e. – a gift would be made to Penn Basketball and not men’s or women’s basketball) and go to offset costs associated with academic services, mentoring and leadership programs, sports performance as well as sport specific operational costs, such as: team travel, recruiting, equipment, performance supplements and coaching salaries.
Annual giving creates a positive impact on the experience of current and future student-athletes while creating environments where they can become champions in the classroom, in the community and in competition. The financial contributions of Penn Athletics supporters advance the mission of Penn Athletics and provide a foundation for our student-athletes during their time at Penn and well into the future.
The University appropriates roughly 40% of the entire athletics budget creating an overwhelming need for philanthropy to help close this financial gap. We encourage all athletics donors to make annual giving to a specific sport program a priority. You have the opportunity to designate your annual gift to one of 18 sports programs.
Dedicated supporters of Penn Athletics are often interested in providing financial support to the Weightman Discretionary Fund.
All gifts to the Weightman Discretionary Fund are “unrestricted” and may be utilized at the discretion of the Director of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics for unforeseen costs and one-time expenditures that assist in the advancement of University of Pennsylvania Athletics.
Previous uses of the Weightman Discretionary Fund include:
Athletic Facilities Master Plan
Budget short-falls across Penn’s 33 intercollegiate sports
Implementation and execution of Penn Athletics mentoring program
Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) operational costs
Department wide events
Unique equipment needs across all sports
Unique needs for Sports Performance and Sports Medicine
