2019 Women’s Giving Challenge Recap
PHILADELPHIA – The Penn Champions Club’s fifth annual Penn Athletics Women’s Giving Challenge began on February 1 and concluded on February 28, 2019 with the purpose of raising awareness for women’s athletics at Penn and the goal of empowering the current and future women leaders of Penn Athletics.
During the month-long fundraising challenge, over 380 Penn Athletics alumni, family and friends generously gave over $290,000 in support of varsity programs with a women’s team, including over $100,000 in new and increased gifts. The first $100,000 in new and increased dollars raised during the month of February were matched dollar-for-dollar and awarded to the teams’ annual funds, doubling their impact for women’s athletics.
In addition to the matching-gift opportunity, alumnae were competing for $14,000 in bonus funds to the top three teams in two bonus categories: highest alumnae participation, and highest new and increased alumnae donor participation. Gymnastics achieved the highest alumnae participation, claiming the $4,000 bonus prize. Women’s Golf followed close behind in second, winning $2,000, and Women’s Lacrosse claimed third place, winning $1,000. Women’s Golf was the leader in highest new and increased donor participation winning $4,000 in this category, followed by Gymnastics ($2,000) and Field Hockey ($1,000).
The Penn Champions Club staff would like to thank every member of the Penn Athletics community who participated in the 2019 Women’s Giving Challenge. All gifts made during the Women’s Giving Challenge will go directly towards providing the resources for Penn student-athletes to be champions in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
